# Members and member benefits

Riserva recognises wine-club members from their **Shopify customer tags**.
Members get a **Member** badge wherever your team sees the reservation, and
they can book your members-only experiences. Set it up at **Settings →
Memberships**.

Wine-club members are the reason a reservation system in a winery is different
from one in a restaurant.

***

## How Riserva knows who's a member

Riserva reads the tags your club members already carry on their Shopify
customer records, such as `club-gold` or `wine-club`. To tell Riserva which
tags mean "member":

1. Go to **Settings → Memberships → Member recognition**.
2. Type each tag into **Member tags** and press Enter.
3. Save with the Save bar.

Guests carrying any of those tags count as members. There is nothing new to
maintain: if your club software tags customers, Riserva reads it.

## What guests and staff see

Members see their members-only experiences and a **Member** badge follows
them through the admin and the register. Everyone else gets a "Reserved for
members" notice that you write.

### On your storefront

* **A logged-in member** sees members-only experiences with their times and
  can book them.
* **Everyone else** sees the same card, with its **Book** button but no times.
The exception is an experience set not to show to non-members at all.
* **When a non-member presses Book,** the booking window opens on a "Reserved
for members" notice. The notice makes the pitch: your message, a join button
  and **Sign in**.

Whether non-members see the experience is decided on the experience's page.
Under **Who can book**, the box **Show it to non-members as locked, with a
link to join** decides it.

### Set what the "Reserved for members" notice says

What the notice says is yours, under **Settings → Memberships →
Members-only experiences**:

* **Message to non-members** — blank uses a built-in sentence.
* **Join link** — a page on your store such as `/pages/wine-club`, or a full
web address. With no join link, the window offers Sign in only.
* **Join button label** — "Join to book" unless you change it.
* **Which button leads** — join first with Sign in underneath (the default),
  or the other way round.

Save them with the same Save bar as your member tags. Each Riserva block on
your store (Experience booking or Experiences list) can point at a different
join link in its own settings.

### In the admin and on the register

* In the admin, member reservations carry a **Member** badge. It shows on the
reservations list, on Home, on host rows, and on the reservation page.
* On the register, the Reservations and Book reservation tiles show the same
  **Member** badge.

## Known limits

* **Members must be logged in** to your store for the website to recognise
  them.
